The procedure for replacing the timing belt on the Volvo S40 involves opening the bonnet to access the components located inside the engine bay: on the left side, you need to remove obstructive components such as the windscreen washer reservoir to access the side of the engine block.

There will be a protective panel that also needs to be removed by loosening its fixing screws; some screws will be accessible by removing the front right wheel and the wheel arch liner.

At this point, loosen the central nut of the tensioner pulley, remove the belt, and replace it.
