To replace the rear shock absorber on a Volvo S40, lift the car so that the corresponding wheel is not in contact with the ground. Once lifted, remove the bolts securing the wheel and take it off completely to access the components at the rear.

Next, loosen the screws that secure the shock absorber at the top and bottom, near the driveshaft. After loosening the screws, you can remove the shock absorber and replace it with a new one.
