Replacing the Timing Chain on the Audi 2.5 TDI V6 AKE Engine

In this video, see how to replace the timing belt on the Audi 2.5 TDI V6 AKE engine, which requires two toothed belts. To lock the timing, we have various markings.

Start by locking the injection pump, then open the oil cap and check that the "OT" marking appears on the camshaft, indicating the top dead centre. Stop the camshaft by removing a small cover on the rear of the engine and dismounting the vacuum pump to insert the appropriate tool.

Just before the flywheel, there is a hole where we will screw in the locking tool. Now that the timing is locked, we can remove the base plate of the trapezoidal belt and the toothed belt for the injection pump.

Now, remove the main belt by loosening it via the tensioner roller. Once the two screws are loosened, use a puller to remove the toothed wheels, then remove the belt.

Replace the components; behind the belt is the coolant thermostat, and it is advisable to change it now, as it is only accessible at this time. When fitting the tensioner roller, check its functionality and correct installation.

Position the belt starting from the crankshaft, passing it over the camshaft toothed wheel, the tensioner roller, and the idler pulley, up to the water pump. Loosen the tensioner roller to remove the retaining pin, then tension it to 15 Nm: secure the two toothed wheels at 75 Nm. Place the tensioner roller on the injection pump cover, then turn the engine twice, removing all locking tools.
