How do you reset the Service light on the BMW 5 Series?

The Service indicator that is shown on the instrument panel of the BMW 5 Series can be reset by holding down the brake pedal and then pressing the ignition button three times consecutively: at this point, the message with the Service indicator will be displayed. Now you must hold down the button located on the left side of the panel, in order to display the maintenance interval; when the interval is shown, you can release the button and press it again so that the indicator disappears completely. At the end of the procedure, the panel can be turned off.
