Cleaning the Instrument Cluster Glass

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003

Dust and dirt inside the instrument cluster can make the readings hard to see, so it's best to clean it. Start by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery to remove power. Remove the screws on the dashboard covers to access the ones needed to take out the entire instrument cluster. Use a Torx wrench to remove the screws from the instrument cluster frame, which should be carefully removed. Disconnect the various wires connected to the components installed on the frame, then, with utmost caution, remove the entire instrument cluster by disconnecting all the wires attached to it. Place the instrument cluster on a work table and proceed to remove and clean the glass. Clean the glass, which is actually a plastic component, with neutral detergents, avoiding solvents that could make it more opaque.
