Replacement of Driver's Side Airbag

Model: BMW Serie 5 E61, E60 - Years 2003-2010

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and cover the negative terminal with insulating material; after disconnecting the battery, wait one minute before starting work. Insert a Torx screwdriver into the hidden opening on the back of the steering wheel until you feel the resistance of the spring. Increase pressure on the spring until the airbag unit unlocks. Tilt and then lift it out, disconnecting the electrical connector beforehand. Now position the removed airbag unit with the padded side facing up, being careful. To install the new unit, proceed in reverse: connect the connector and then push the airbag directly onto the steering wheel until it clicks into place.
