How to Reset the Service Light on a BMW 3 Series G20/G21

Resetting the service light on a BMW 3 Series G20/G21 requires access to the diagnostic menu. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine, and press the start button three times in a row, then hold the "BC" button (on the outer edge of the wiper lever), or the "0.0" button on the dashboard - depending on the trim - until the display shows "Diagnose mode active". In the menu, select "engine oil" and hold BC to reset the oil. The display will show the new interval. For the brakes ("Bremsbeläge" = pads), the reset is only possible after replacing the pads and wear sensors. If the sensors are still old, the system prevents the reset. After replacement, repeat the procedure to reset the brakes as well. Exit the menu by turning off the ignition. The procedure is simple, but it requires that the components be actually changed before the reset.
