How to Bleed Air from a BMW 3 Series
Model: BMW Serie 3
F30, F31
- Years 2012-2019
This video describes the ISTA procedure (the official BMW method) for bleeding air from a BMW 3 Series: it is essential that the engine is cold; the cabin heater must be set to maximum with the fan on low. Open the main cap of the expansion tank and remove the three bleed bolts (place a cloth underneath as fluid will come out). Start adding coolant and continue until the level reaches the maximum. Fluid will come out of the bleed lines: if there is air, it will initially appear with bubbles. If the system is okay, the fluid will flow cleanly. When the level is at maximum, close the bleed bolts, replace the main cap, and take a test drive to bring the engine to temperature. The next day, when the engine is cold, check the level and top off if necessary.
