How to Replace the Thermostat in a BMW 3 Series?

In this tutorial, you will see how to replace the thermostat in a BMW 3 Series E46. First, remove the plastic engine cover by loosening the 5 screws. Then locate the thermostat: it is located at the front of the engine. Next, go underneath the compartment, remove the protection panel, and drain the coolant by loosening the indicated bolt. Once that is done, disconnect the two hoses and remove the 4 mounting bolts of the thermostat using an 8mm Torx wrench. At this point, you can install the replacement part by following the exact reverse procedure.
