How to Top Off the Coolant in a BMW 5 Series

Here’s how to top off the coolant (antifreeze) in your vehicle: open the hood, wait for the engine to cool down, and locate the coolant reservoir on the left side behind the headlight assembly. Proceed to unscrew the fill cap of the reservoir, being cautious of any hot pressurized vapors; unscrew the cap slowly. At this point, add the antifreeze suitable for your engine type, ensuring not to exceed the maximum level indicated on the reservoir. Finally, close the cap and the hood.
