The timing belt on diesel engines (2.0 liters) should generally be replaced every 112,000 miles, or every 5 years (even if the maximum mileage has not been reached); for gasoline engines, it is recommended to replace the timing belt or chain every 62,000 miles. The procedure for replacing the timing chains is very complex and requires special care and attention (often the engine block is removed from the body to gain access).
