If you hear a noise coming from the lower part of the engine during acceleration and deceleration, a sort of thud that you can feel right under the pedal area, it is likely that there is a failure of the engine mounts, which are metal and rubber components designed to dampen vibrations and connect the engine to the cradle fixed to the vehicle's frame; due to the rubber failure, the mount will no longer be able to dampen vibrations, and the metal-to-metal contact will result in this annoying noise; however, replacement is quite simple and inexpensive.
