How do you unlock the automatic transmission of the BMW 5 Series?

To unlock the automatic transmission of the BMW 5 Series, you need to unscrew the screws that fix the storage compartment located immediately in front of the gear selector lever. After these screws have been loosened, it will be possible to detach this plastic container so that you have access to the components in its lower part: here you will find a lock where you will need to insert a special "key" and rotate it completely clockwise. This will allow the gear selector to shift into neutral mode, effectively allowing the transmission to unlock.
