Replacing the Center Bearing, Also Known as Flex Disc

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

If the center support bearing of your car's driveshaft is worn, also known as the Flex Disc, you may experience transmission issues or noises during acceleration. The flexible disc connects the driveshaft to the transmission, while the center support bearing keeps the driveshaft aligned and prevents excessive play when it rotates. This is not a very difficult job to perform, and it is advisable to do it without removing the exhaust. Raise the car and remove the transmission cover. Then remove the two rear wheels. The flexible disc is connected to the back of the transmission. You will need to separate the driveshaft and then remove the retaining ring that holds the bearing. Then simply tighten the nuts and reassemble everything.
