How to Replace the Parking Brake Drums

Model: BMW Serie 7 MK 3, E38 - Years 1994-2001
Part: Brake drums and shoes

Place the car on a lift and raise it to a comfortable working height. Remove the wheel corresponding to the drum to be replaced. Locate the brake caliper and unscrew the bolts holding it in place on the rotor. Remove the caliper. Remove the rotor itself after unscrewing the bolts that secure it. At this point, you can remove the drum. To do this, release the tension on the shoe using a special tool, remove the spring, and with a screwdriver, extract the piece that holds it in position. Repeat the same process for the other shoe and remove the center pins from them. Now you can take off the shoes and replace them with the new ones. The installation process is the same as the disassembly, performed in reverse order. The car on which the maintenance operation is performed in the images is a BMW 7 Series.
