How to Replace the Rear Shocks on a BMW 320

Replacing the rear shocks is generally easier than replacing the front ones since you do not need special clamps to separate the spring from the shock absorber. To facilitate disassembly, lift the vehicle on a lift and remove the rear wheel. Place a jack under the suspension and remove the lower mounting nut. Then lower the vehicle and open the trunk to remove the load floor cover, the trunk trim, and the side carpet to access the shock tower and complete the disassembly. At this point, move the boot and the mount to the new shock absorber and proceed in reverse for installation.
