Issues with the spare wheel release mechanism of the Fiat Ducato

In this video, we see how the spare wheel lifting mechanism works on the Fiat Ducato. The mechanism is mounted under the rear floor, on the right side, and is operated with a crank inserted in the dedicated compartment (usually in the cabin or in the tailgate). It is composed of a steel cable, a plastic gear, a control window that shows a yellow indicator when the wheel is correctly locked in position. There are common problems with this mechanism: the first is that the cable may get stuck due to rust and lack of use. To prevent this, we periodically lubricate the cable and mechanism with Teflon spray. If it is already stuck, apply WD-40 and wait 15 minutes before gently forcing it. The gear may be broken, because we may have tightened the cable excessively beyond the locking point. If the wheel does not detach, use an extension pipe on the crank to increase leverage.
