Replacing the Timing Belt on a Fiat 600

Replace the timing belt if you have exceeded the mileage specified in the manual. Here’s how to remove the belt. Lift the car on a column lift; remove the front wheel and the right wheel arch liner. Remove the timing belt cover panel, open the front bonnet, and remove the other covers. Using a suitable spanner, loosen the second tensioner and slide the belt off its seat. After fitting the new belt, use the spanner to fit the tensioner roller, tension it until the correct belt tension is achieved (fit both belts). Finally, check the tensioner and the belt itself, and tighten all parts with the socket wrench. Refit the wheel arch liner, the wheel, and all covers.
