How to Change the Pads by Removing Calipers and Discs

Model: Fiat 500 312 - Years 2007-2024
Part: Brake rotors

In this video, you will learn how to replace the brake pads and how to remove calipers and discs. First, remove the cover from the wheel bolts. Using a spanner, loosen all the bolts counterclockwise, lift the car with a jack, and remove the bolts from the wheel. Take off the wheel to expose the disc and its caliper. On the left side of the caliper, you will notice two bolts; once identified, unscrew them counterclockwise. Remove the bolts and set them aside. Now you can slide off the brake caliper, resting it gently to avoid pulling or twisting the attached hose. Disconnect the electrical connector for the brake sensor. Once the caliper is removed, detach the bracket securing the disc using a hammer. Now insert another bracket, then disconnect the brake sensor behind the hub and fit the new one. Next, remove the 17mm caliper mounted behind the hub by unscrewing the bolts that hold it to the hub; you will find two bolts on the side towards the inside of the car. Now only the brake disc remains, which can be pulled towards you. You can now insert the new disc and the wheel centring pins. Refit the calipers with the new pads following the reverse procedure. Secure the bracket with the retaining clip and screw in the bolts as before. Once the brakes are reassembled, you can put the wheel back in place and screw in the bolts. Finally, replace the hub cover and lower the car to the ground.

To remove the front brake pads on a Chrysler PT Cruiser, position the car on a column lift and raise it to a comfortable height. Unscrew the pins using a socket wrench or air drill and remove the wheel. Then, use a screwdriver to detach the brake pads. Next, remove the caliper bracket and unscrew the pins on the brake disc (using a Torx screwdriver). Pull the disc towards you to slide it off the hub. Install the new brake disc with all associated pins, secure the caliper bracket to the disc and the pads, then mount the brake caliper, ensuring all pins are tightened properly. Before mounting the wheel, bleed the brake caliper and tighten the pin.
