How to Remove the Timing Chain

Removing the timing chain requires good general mechanical knowledge and, above all, the availability of the appropriate tools for correct timing; start by disconnecting the battery and removing the engine air filter box; drain the oil and coolant; remove the particulate filter and the turbo; take off the oil sump and the engine side support; remove the auxiliary belt and the water pump; then apply the appropriate jigs to hold the camshaft in position and remove the timing chain cover; fit the jig to the crankshaft pulley, remove the hydraulic tensioner, and then the toothed gear from the camshaft to complete the removal of the chain.
