How to Replace the Coolant Reservoir on a Ford Escort DIY

To replace the coolant reservoir on a Ford Escort, work in the engine bay on the driver's side. After lifting the bonnet, locate the white plastic tank connected to the cooling circuit and ensure the engine is cold. Remove the cap and clear the work area around the reservoir. Using the appropriate spanner, unscrew the screws securing it to the cover and wheel arch, then carefully disconnect the rubber hose from the lower fitting, using a screwdriver to slide off the sleeve without damaging it. At this point, you can fully extract the old reservoir from the engine bay and compare it with the new replacement. Transfer the return hose to the new tank and tighten it securely onto the spout. Next, lower the new reservoir into the same position as the old one, aligning the original fixing points: re-screw the screws onto the metalwork and check that the hose is not kinked. Once assembly is complete, replace the cap and restore the coolant level according to the manufacturer's instructions.
