Timing Belt Replacement

Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004
Part: Engine

Before proceeding with the removal of the timing belt, drain the cooling system using the appropriate plugs located under the radiator, as the water pump will also need to be removed. Then, remove the battery, the air filter housing, and the rocker cover (this will help you visualise the timing reference).
Next, begin the actual disassembly of the timing system by placing a jack under the engine to support it while removing the mount. Once the engine mount is removed, take off the timing belt cover, the auxiliary belt (loosening the corresponding tensioner), the water pump pulley, and the pump itself to replace it with a new one. Rotate the crankshaft pulley to align the timing references and lock them, then proceed to disassemble and replace the timing kit: timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley.

When replacing the thermostat, it is advisable to drain the coolant system completely. The thermostat is located just above the gearbox, directly under the ignition coils. To facilitate the replacement, disconnect the intake duct hose and remove the coil pack. At this point, disconnect the connector from the thermostat and proceed to remove the corresponding fixing pins to replace it with the new one, ensuring to use a new gasket.
