If there are signs of coolant boiling, the cause is likely a damaged cylinder head gasket. If you need to remove the cylinder head to replace the gasket, it is good practice to have the surface planed to eliminate any warping caused by overheating. After planing, ensure the surface is perfectly flat using a straight edge and a feeler gauge; repeat the same check on the cylinder block; re-tap the threads of the cylinder head fixing holes and measure the piston protrusion relative to the block; use a new set of fixing bolts, which should be tightened in a cross pattern using both a torque wrench and a calibrated wrench.
