How to Test the Mass Airflow Sensor Without Removing It from a Ford Vehicle

The mass airflow sensor is mounted between the engine air filter and the intake manifold; it sends a variable voltage to the engine control unit, corresponding to the mass of air entering the engine. In the case shown in the video, the sensor has a connector with four wires. We are interested in the ground wire and the one that sends the air mass information to the engine control unit. The signal must be measured with a multimeter (20 Volts). We need to identify the power wire for the sensor. To do this, turn on the ignition, then connect the negative lead to the black wire of the connector (which is the ground). Now connect the positive lead to another wire. In this case, the purple wire is the supply wire (12 Volts). Now we need to identify the wire that sends the air mass information. Once found, perform a test with the engine running. If the measurement changes as the engine speed increases, then the sensor is functioning correctly; otherwise, it is faulty.
