This is a task that requires a certain level of mechanical knowledge: for safety, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, then disconnect the hybrid system interlock connector (usually orange) from the high-voltage battery. This operation must be performed with caution. Remove the engine cover, detach the cooling hoses, disconnect the electrical connector and the exhaust gas pipes; remove the support bracket for the GPS system, which might be in the way. Take apart the EGR valve by unscrewing the bolts that secure it to the intake manifold and the exhaust pipe. Often, the valve is connected to a small radiator to cool the gases; unscrew the three bolts that hold it to the valve.
