Disassembly and Repair of the Steering Column on the Hyundai

If you hear a noise from the steering wheel, this guide explains how to disassemble the steering of your Hyundai i40 to replace the worn gear inside the power steering. First, remove the plastic covers located under the steering wheel by unscrewing the fixing screws. Once the plastics around the steering wheel are removed and the electrical connectors are disconnected, use a socket spanner to unscrew the steering column from the bottom. After completing these steps, use a screwdriver to help remove the steering wheel cover where the airbag is located, prying it off with the indicated tool. Now, once the cover is detached from the steering wheel, disconnect the airbag connector to unscrew the steering wheel with the appropriate spanner. Next, unscrew the two fixing screws of the indicator stalk. At this point, disconnect all the electrical connectors, unscrew the fixing bolts of the steering column to remove the entire steering shaft, open the power steering motor by unscrewing the fixing screws, and replace the worn gear. After this last operation, reassemble everything as it was before, and your work will be complete.
