First, ensure the surface of the cylinder head is machined to eliminate any warping caused by overheating; check the flatness of the surface using a straight edge and a feeler gauge; repeat the same check on the cylinder block; re-tap the threads of the cylinder head mounting holes without allowing debris to enter the cylinders; check the piston protrusion from the block with a depth gauge to exclude any risk of piston knock; finally, apply the new gasket and the cylinder head, securing it with a new set of bolts, which should be tightened in a cross pattern using a torque wrench and a calibrated wrench.
