Hyundai has designed a type of bonnet for its vehicles, called the "active hood system", which protects pedestrians in the event of a collision, preventing the head from striking the windscreen, which causes the most severe injuries to the impacted individual. In the event of a collision, the bonnet raises by a few centimetres, ensuring that the torso of an adult remains on the bonnet, and that the entire body of a child stays between the grille and the bonnet. Naturally, this requires compliance with legal regulations and that the speed is kept below 31 miles per hour, or lower, in urban areas.
