How do you reset the Service light on the Jeep Patriot?

It is possible to make the Service light on the instrument panel of the Jeep Patriot disappear completely by inserting the ignition key into the ignition switch and turning it to start the engine: once the instrument panel is turned on, you can press the accelerator pedal all the way down three times. After this operation is performed, you can release the pedal and turn off the engine; when you start the engine again, you can verify that everything is working correctly and that the light is off.
