Do Snow Chains Really Work in Mud?

The answer to the question from the video is YES: they tested a Land Rover Defender on a motocross track turned into a mudslide with street tires. The Defender, despite its electronics and low range, struggled to climb because there was no grip. They installed professional snow chains like the Konig Polar only on the rear wheels. On the first attempt, the impossible climb was conquered: the chains "scraped" the ground and found grip where the slick tires slipped. By putting the chains only on the rear, the vehicle climbed, pushed by the rear end, but the front end slipped, making the steering almost useless downhill. By adding chains to the front as well, the Defender transformed into a tracked vehicle: it regained directionality, braking, and climbed steep inclines with embarrassing ease, as if it were on asphalt.
