Hill Start Assist System

Model: Mazda CX-5 MK 1, KE - Years 2012-2017

This is a system that facilitates hill starts by preventing the vehicle from rolling back. A regular hill start normally (without the Hill Launch Assist system) would require considerable coordination skills from the driver: keeping the vehicle stationary with the handbrake while gradually releasing the clutch and simultaneously accelerating; as soon as the inertia is overcome, the handbrake can be gradually released. The HLA system eliminates the need for the driver to hold the handbrake and, instead, automatically keeps the vehicle 'held' for a maximum of 2.5 seconds while the driver’s foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator. As soon as the available torque is sufficient, the HLA releases the brakes, without the risk of stalling or rolling back.
