Replacing the Engine Fan Clutch

Model: Mercedes Classe E W210 - Years 1995-2002

If the engine cooling system is not functioning properly, the problem may be due to a malfunctioning engine cooling fan. In this Mercedes E-Class, the fan spins, but its motion is too free: you need to replace its clutch that modulates the transmission of rotational motion. Obtain a new clutch. To access the faulty one, create some space: remove the two clips on the inner edge of the hood and the four adjacent bolts. Now that you have cleared the space, reach the center of the clutch with a 8 mm Allen wrench with an extension and loosen the central nut. To increase maneuvering space, you will also need to remove the timing belt and the water pump. Once sufficient space is created, remove the fan and detach the clutch from it. To do this, unscrew the three fasteners with a 5 mm Allen wrench. Install the new one and reassemble everything as before. After completing the operation, check the resistance of the new clutch.
