Replacing the timing belt of a Mercedes 190, model W201, is a fairly easy task that can be done independently, aided by our short video tutorial that will illustrate the most important steps for the replacement and installation of a timing belt. Start the replacement by opening the bonnet and covering the outer part of the bodywork with a soft cloth. Using a 17 mm spanner, unscrew the fixing bolt of the tensioner, and with a 13 mm combination spanner, loosen the tensioner. At this point, you can remove the belt and insert the new one, as shown in the video. Now begin the assembly process. With the 13 mm spanner, tighten the tensioner, and with the 17 mm spanner, screw in the fixing bolt. Run the engine for a few minutes and then close the bonnet.
