Changing the engine oil should also involve replacing the oil filter, and it is best done in a workshop equipped with a lift and proper containers for collecting used oil. For the Nissan Qashqai, first, lift the car on a hydraulic lift to access the underside of the engine, which will be protected by a plastic cover that can be removed by unscrewing the various screws around its perimeter. After removing the plastic cover, you will have access to the oil sump where the drain plug is located; before removing it, position a container underneath large enough to hold all the oil that will drain from the engine. At this point, unscrew the plug and let the oil drain from the engine. Once the used oil has stopped dripping, proceed to remove the oil filter, which is located above the sump towards the radiator, and a socket wrench will be needed to remove it. After replacing the plug, screw in the new oil filter into its seat; it will have an O-ring on the top that should be lubricated with oil before installation. Additionally, if you do not have a torque wrench set to 20 Nm, it is advisable to tighten it by hand without over-tightening with the wrench. At this point, the engine will be ready to receive the new oil, so you can reattach the plastic cover and prepare for topping up. After lowering the car from the lift, pour the oil into the engine through the filler cap located above, accessible from the front bonnet. After pouring in the amount of oil specified by the manufacturer, it is advisable to perform an initial start-up and then check the oil level again, topping up if necessary.
