Steering Wheel Replacement with Airbag Removal

Replacing the steering wheel requires the removal of the airbag, which is a delicate operation. First, you must deactivate the airbag deployment. There is usually a switch located on the dashboard that allows you to disable all installed airbags; the position of this device is clearly marked, and in case of uncertainty, refer to the vehicle's user manual. Begin by unscrewing the retaining screws of the airbag module, accessible through the holes on the sides of the steering column using an Allen key and a screwdriver. Loosen the screws and carefully pull the airbag cover away, releasing the plastic clips. Once the airbag is removed, disconnect the two connectors located at the back by releasing the small plastic tabs with a tool. Be careful not to drop the airbag module, do not place it near intense heat sources, do not carry it away, and do not shake or hit it, as it may explode. Remove the screw on the column carefully and detach the wiring. Now you can remove the steering wheel retaining screw using a Torx key with an extension. Unscrew the screw until it is removed. Carefully take off the steering wheel by hand, being mindful of the airbag cables.
