How to Change the Engine Oil in an Opel Astra

To change the engine oil on an Opel Astra, start the engine for a few minutes to make the oil more fluid, then turn it off. Safely lift the car and remove any lower engine protection. Position a container under the oil sump and unscrew the drain plug, allowing the used oil to fully drain out. Once drained, re-tighten the drain plug securely. Locate the oil filter, unscrew it with an appropriate tool, and remove it. Lubricate the seal of the new filter with a bit of clean oil and screw it in by hand until it is snug. Open the filler cap on the engine and pour in the new oil to the specified quantity. Start the engine for a few seconds, turn it off, and check the level with the dipstick, topping up if necessary.
