Let's see how to change the oil and filter on a petrol Opel Astra J: open the hood and unscrew the oil cap. Then start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes. Allow it to cool down, then unscrew the cap and let the oil drain into a large container, which we will dispose of along with the filter at an authorized center. Lift the car and place it on two jack stands; remove the undercarriage cover under the engine. The filter is located in an awkward position, on the engine side accessible from underneath the vehicle with a 24mm socket + extension + universal joint. Remove the filter and let it drain into the container; clean the seating area well and replace the cartridge and the O-ring, which we will lubricate with new oil. Reinstall the filter in its place, mount a new gasket on the oil pan; reattach the undercarriage covers and lower the car. Start by pouring about 90% of the required amount of oil into the fill cap, screw the cap back on, and let the engine run for 30-60 seconds. Turn it off, wait 2 minutes, check the oil level, and top up as necessary.
