In this video, we see how to clean an EGR valve: in this Opel, the valve is easily accessible, so removing it is easy, just remove the connector and then unscrew the screws and remove it gently from its housing. We see that it is full of soot, so we need to avoid the deposits falling into the engine. We remove the bulk with a screwdriver and then separate the electrical part from the mechanical part, by removing the four screws that join the two parts. Any degreasing product is suitable for cleaning the mechanical part, and we will also need a brush to get into every part of the component. If you use something metallic, be careful not to scratch the sliding needle. Rinse with water and degreaser and then with water only. Reassemble the valve with its electrical part and then reinstall it, replacing the gaskets. The job is done.

How to open the bonnet of the Volkswagen Polo
