If the covering of the gear lever gaiter appears cracked or has already torn, you can replace it with one made of genuine leather that, once installed, will withstand both wear and car wash detergents; replacing it is very simple: start by removing the rubber covering inside the glove compartment in front of the gear lever, then unclip and remove the lower plastic part; at this point, you can unclip the frame at the base of the gaiter, then turn it upwards and unclip the blue plastic bush that holds the knob on the gear lever; once the knob with gaiter is removed, proceed to replace the gaiter and then reverse the steps for reassembly.
