Here’s how to engage and disengage the handbrake on a Peugeot 5008: the control is a lever switch located in the centre console between the two front seats, marked with a "P" surrounded by a circle. To disengage the handbrake, ensure your foot is on the brake pedal, then press down on the handbrake lever: the red "P" warning light on the instrument panel will turn off and the message "handbrake released" will appear. To engage it, while the car is stationary, pull the lever upwards and the message "handbrake applied" will appear on the instrument panel. The handbrake engages automatically when the engine is turned off, the driver's seatbelt is unbuckled, and the door is opened (a very useful feature to prevent accidental starts).
