Replacing the Auxiliary Belt and Pulleys on a Renault Megane III

Let’s see how to replace the auxiliary belt on a Renault Megane II: this operation requires a minimum of basic mechanical knowledge. First, disconnect the battery starting with the negative terminal, lift the car securely on axle stands, remove the right front wheel arch liner, and locate the tensioner; rotate the central bolt clockwise to release the tension. Remove the old belt and unclip it. Unscrew the central nut of the tensioner and remove the entire component. Now fit the new tensioner (we found the complete kit on auto-doc.it with the code 542R0548 at the price of £158.44: the kit includes the belt, tensioner roller, crankshaft pulley, poly-V belt guide, and delivery is free). Install the new tensioner by tightening the central nut, then fit the belt following the original winding diagram (take a photo before removing it): remember that the writing on the belt must be readable and proceed in a clockwise direction. Compress the tensioner to allow the belt to slide onto the last pulley. Slowly release the tensioner to tension it automatically. Manually turn the engine for 2-3 complete revolutions to check that the belt runs centred on all pulleys. Refit the wheel arch liner, lower the car, reconnect the battery, and you’re done.
