How to Replace the Alternator on a Renault Trafic

Wait for the engine to cool down. To avoid potential short circuits, disconnect the positive battery cable before starting work. Begin by sketching the belt route on a piece of paper in relation to the various pulleys. Use a serpentine tool to loosen the belt and remove it from the pulley. Disconnect the auxiliary belt and detach any electrical connections. Remove any peripheral components that obstruct access to the alternator mounting bolts. Use a tool to unscrew and a ratchet to loosen and remove the bolts; there are usually at least two or more. Then, remove the alternator from its housing; to facilitate this operation, shake it vigorously to ensure it comes free from the mounting brackets. If the voltage regulator and pulley do not match those you have removed, fit the old pulley onto the new alternator. Follow the reverse procedure to install the new alternator.
