Cleaning the EGR Valve Without Removing It

If you experience engine performance issues and an increase in smoke, it is likely due to a blockage in the EGR valve, which tends to remain slightly open due to carbon build-up, allowing exhaust gases to leak into the intake even at higher revs. The most effective solution is to remove the valve and the manifold for a thorough cleaning rather than attempting to clean it by spraying an aerosol into the intake duct as shown in the video: the risk is that a piece of carbon may detach and end up between the valves. That said, once you have cleaned with the spray, it is advisable to add a fuel additive to the tank to clean the fuel system.
