In this video, we are shown how the dual-clutch transmission works in the Smart 453. It is composed of a single unit with two clutches. There are two pressure plates and a double bearing, which in turn is operated by two forks: one operates the larger bearing and the other the smaller one. Special tools are required for both disassembly and reassembly, so it is not a job that can be done in the home garage, as this could damage both the transmission and the new clutch we want to install. It is definitely one of those jobs where it is best to rely on a good workshop: we will save time and money.
