This video illustrates how the dual-clutch gearbox fitted to the Smart 453 operates. It consists of a single pack containing two clutches.

Two pressure plates and a double bearing, which is operated by two forks: one operates the larger bearing and the other the smaller one. Special tools are required for both disassembly and reassembly, so this is not a job you can do in your home garage, as you risk damaging both the gearbox and the new clutch you wish to install.

It is certainly one of those jobs best left to a good workshop: you will save time and money.
