How to Replace the Oil Filter on the Smart 451 Diesel

To ensure excellent engine longevity for your Smart, proper and timely maintenance using the correct oil is essential to protect the turbo and the timing chain. Performing this maintenance is extremely simple as the drain plug of the oil sump and the filter are located near the rear right wheel. Position a container under the drain plug, unscrew the plug, drain the oil, and then unscrew the filter. Coat the gasket of the new filter with clean oil and screw it in by hand, reattach the plug, and fill the engine with new oil until the correct level is reached.
