The starting system of a car is an integrated network of electrical and mechanical components that work together to start the engine. The 12-volt battery provides power to the entire system: by turning the key to the start position, the low-current circuit is activated; the starter relay receives the ignition signal and powers the starter solenoid, where the electromagnet pushes the engagement fork, closing the main contact to turn the electric motor. The pinion engages with the flywheel and meshes with the ring gear, and disengages automatically when the engine exceeds 300 RPM: at this point, the key is released from the start position.
