The reason why the steering wheel shakes (and how to fix it)

As we can see in the video, it is a common problem: if the tremor is felt at low speeds, the issue is probably related to the steering organs or the transmission, so we will need to check the hydraulic steering fluid, whose level may be low, or it may have degraded; the timing belt of the hydraulic steering may have loosened or worn out, as well as the homokinetic joints of the front axles. If instead the steering wheel shakes at high speeds (above 80 km/h), the most frequent cause is unbalanced wheels, or rims (especially if alloy) or deformed wheels. If the steering wheel shakes during braking, it means that the brake discs are deformed. Worn components such as control arms and worn steering bearings can also result in vibrations and instability.

How to Open the Bonnet on the Lancia Y
