The main warning signs indicating faulty injectors are primarily difficulty starting and unstable idling, caused by insufficient or interrupted atomization. We should also consider vibrations and irregular firing (the classic "knocking" sound), where one or more cylinders do not receive the correct air/fuel mixture.

If we notice reduced performance and poor acceleration, this is another symptom, not to mention the illumination of the "check engine" light, which will require reading the error codes with an OBD2 scanner. If we smell fuel in the cabin, there may be a crack in the injector body, a broken seal, or a valve that is not closing properly; in any case, we need to check immediately.

Injectors that leak or atomize poorly increase fuel consumption: a sign not to be underestimated. A failed emissions test is also a sure sign of some problem that could damage the catalytic converter.
