How to Replace the Transmission Fluid in Your Car

In this video tutorial, you can see how to replace the transmission fluid in your car. The first step is to lift the bonnet and secure it with the appropriate prop. If a dipstick is not available, replace the fluid at the specified intervals (see the owner's manual). If you have a dipstick, check the colour: if it is bright, the fluid does not need changing; conversely, if the colour is dark (indicating slight contamination). Step one: warm up the engine by driving for at least 5 miles. Step two: lift the car with a hydraulic jack and place support stands. Turn off the engine and put it in neutral, placing a container under the transmission sump. Unscrew the drain plug and wait for all the fluid to drain out. Unscrew the bolts of the transmission sump and let the contained fluid out. Install a new filter and the new gasket in the transmission sump. Refit the transmission sump and the new drain plug. Add the transmission fluid using a funnel. With the engine in neutral, check that the fluid does not exceed the "hot" mark.
