In this video, you will learn how a low-pressure fuel pump (diesel or petrol) works. These pumps are usually mounted directly inside the fuel tank and are used to pump fuel and read its level. It performs this function through a simple potentiometer that slides over a contact and moves accordingly, allowing the level to be read from the dashboard. The actual pump is a diaphragm pump that operates between 3 and 6 bar; in petrol engines, it injects directly, while in diesel engines, it feeds the high-pressure pump. It is typically located under the rear seat and can be heard operating with a slight hum; if it malfunctions, you may feel the vehicle stuttering or experiencing a loss of power.
